This is a personal portfolio. I keep it simple: no advertising, no third-party trackers and no selling of data. The only measurement is my own, and only if you allow it. This page explains the little personal data that is involved when you visit or contact me, in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Who is responsible
This website is run by Walter, a software and creative developer. For anything about your data, email me at wltcollabs@gmail.com.
What I collect and why
- When you email me — your email address, name (if you give it) and your message. I use them only to reply and to discuss a possible collaboration or job. Legal basis: taking steps at your request before a possible agreement, or my legitimate interest in answering messages. I delete conversations when they are no longer needed, at the latest two years after our last contact, unless we work together and the law requires me to keep records longer.
- Site analytics (only if you accept cookies) — if you press “Accept” in the cookie notice, the site records which pages you view, which links and buttons you click (their text, target and position on the page), the website you came from (domain only) and your device type (mobile, tablet or desktop). A random visitor ID in a cookie connects the visits of one browser; it contains nothing about who you are. No IP address, name or email is stored, and nothing is shared with anyone: the data stays in this website’s own database and is deleted automatically after 12 months. Logged-in administrators are never counted. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
- Server logs — like every website, the hosting server automatically records technical data for each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser and device type. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: legitimate interest (security and operation). The logs are kept only for a short period and are not used to identify you.
- Soundcheck game — your best scores and daily result are saved in your own browser (local storage). They never leave your device and I cannot see them. See the cookie policy.
- Soundcheck scoreboard (only if you add your name) — after a game you can choose to put your score on the public scoreboard. Then the name you type, your score, the game mode and the date are saved and shown publicly, together with your country. For the country, your browser asks for permission to use your location. If you allow it, the position is rounded to about 10 km in your browser and sent to the free service BigDataCloud, which returns only the country; the coordinates are not stored by this site. If you decline, your entry shows “Location declined”. To stop spam, a temporary, anonymous code derived from your IP address is kept for one day; the IP address itself is not stored. Legal basis: your consent, given by submitting. Use a nickname if you prefer, and email me to have an entry removed.
- “Would you use it?” on concept projects — on some concept projects (such as INPUT ZERO) you can press “I’d use this”. Only the total number of people is stored. To count each visitor once, a temporary, anonymous code derived from your IP address is kept for 30 days and then deleted automatically; the IP address itself is not stored, and your browser remembers that you already pressed the button. Legal basis: your consent, given by pressing the button.
- Embedded videos — videos from YouTube (and, where used, Vimeo or Spotify) do not load until you press play. Only then does the provider receive data such as your IP address and may set cookies. Legal basis: your consent, given by pressing play. The provider’s own privacy policy applies, for example Google’s privacy policy for YouTube.
Who else processes data
- Hosting — the website runs on Hostinger, which processes server data on my behalf as a data processor.
- Email — messages to my address are handled by my email provider (Google Gmail).
- Links to other sites — links to YouTube, Spotify, Instagram, LinkedIn and GitHub take you to those platforms. What happens there is covered by their privacy policies, not this one.
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, they rely on safeguards required by the GDPR, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
I do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling, and I never sell or share it for marketing.
Your rights
You can ask me to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its use, or to receive it in a portable format. Where you gave consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Just email wltcollabs@gmail.com — I will reply within one month.
If you think your data is not handled correctly, you can also file a complaint with a data protection authority, such as the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Security
The site is served only over an encrypted HTTPS connection and is kept up to date. No method is 100% secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect the data I handle.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date at the top.
